Who me ? Oh yes that render. Its nearly every model (3d) I for wardogs. I dont usually make ground based vehicles... ships usually so I was some practice I got in there...

The renders sort of what some call a clay render, very fancy radiosity effect. Unfortunately the package I use does not lend its self well to proper 4D models.....

Oh and some sketch stuff...

there was no porting, I "rebuilt" the minis from the doga imports.
A time intensive experiment, but one I got darn good at.
It was cool because I got to see a stylistic difference in how stuff was put together and it made is kind of fun.

Sorry Jim I was not aware of that. Well the ship you did do is probably going to be my 1st test 3D model I build. The Stirling Class CA. Hopefully.

Really Doga is not good for this work as basically its a box of bits you stick together like kitbashing. Yes its fast which is good, but when the main hull is day made of 10 different parts instead of one shape, its why they are not so watertight.

For the record I have ported a DXF model from DOga to LW and it looked ok, if I can find it I might try that plugin to say how bad it was.

In fact I think it was one of those test pieces for that aborted work I did for AV:T... When AV:T came out I could see a part of it on one of the AV:T ships...... I mentioned this to Charles and he said yes it was IIRC..

DOGA is a no plugin entity. Making watertight models is very hard in doga. Just ask 'jimbeau'? I think it was me and him who did some experiments and had to port from doga to blender as dxf.

Ultimately and due to this I am learning LW8. Its not so bad for me as I can work in 3DSMax abit but I fancy LW.
Really for minis and better models LW or 3DS or whatever is the route. Even Metasequia could be worth trying to. (And that does do plugins but not the one Ken might be on about)

I can design damn fine stuff and would like to see more as minis. (trumpet blown)

I would be rather interested in this watertight plugin. I have also heard Rhino is good for .stl format stuff as well.

Oh yeah somewhere I did a box mini from Taz's template of a ship from one of the VBAM games, it looked rather good.

Well in these part we differentiate (say that drunk) between beer and imported beer or is that lager but proper stuff... still that stuff (like Hoegarden) tasks like lager to me not beer-real ale...

Cask Beer you cannot beat it! Real Ale, none of your draught over chemical laden mass produce nonsense oh no real stuff.!

My particular favourites:
Hobgoblin, Black Wych from the Wychwood brewery.
Rigwelters Black Sheet from the Black Sheep Brewery.
Centurions Ghost: York Brewery. (The holy beer)
Bombardier and Satanic Mills from Wells

I favour the dark dark stuff...

The problem with DOGA, and it's a serious one, is that it doesn't produce what they call water-tight models.  Purty pictures it works for but it's not for those who want to make minis.

Blender's latest incarnation is a beauty, the interface is so easy to use it practically models itself.

but use whatever you want.

Oh yes I remember that. We had some fun with that didn't we. smile

I know I should use Blender or Rhino. I know Rhino is the weapon of choice for watertightness. Blender I have better access to. I have tried. Just lazy I guess.

Ah but we are not from around here, Jim
We invented the language we speak it proper like.  lol

To answer your earlier question Mike.
Sure I can help out.
Really it Chris Duke (not Drake) whose the mecha (as in big ass stompy things) fan. He just kept on at me to do some.

Prefer starships. But still I wanted to do some PA suits at some point.

I am quite busy with some other project at the moment. So don't expet oodles of stuff, as we say around here.

I did start a TTA web site. Had a few new vessels on it and some that are half seen in the books.

Well Morrigan Press ended up with the rights to the TTA universe and got Stewart Cowley on board. they re-did the 1st book, made an RPG and a planet gazeteer... then things went quiet.
Adrian Mann the feller who made a damn fine TTA site was involved.
http://www.bisbos.com/rocketscience/tta/index.html

Stats, I'd stick with the TTA formula, make up some companies,
then list Main Drive, Manouver Drive, Sensors (?) Defences, Crew and Weapons.
A black and white line drawing looks good too.

I'd try your own universe. You can do more then. Or set it in the distant future of the TTA setting. But yeah stick the to the TTA look.

Yes buy buy, it has nice pictures...  big_smile

Brick Moon..

I'll explain. The Goths, shapeshifting Aliens heard and listened to our radio transmissions that leaked into deep space. And that the late victorian period was the height of civilization and decided to shape their civilization on it.
But what they ended up is with a semi high tech empire.

The Brick Moon is part of the defensive chain around Brittania, when the xenophobic Alien hating humans come they hit the moon and it hits the world... thousands of bricks showering the ground zero.
These Aliens foolishly believed that in looking like the humans the humans would let them live...

Brick Moon Brick Moon !  lol

I shall explain later..... (key words: Nemesis the Warlock Book4)

Ships I find a doddle. Thats why I started on Wardogs. Never really done tanks, walkers etc..  Call it a challenge.
Though for some of the designs I have had some nice little sketches which helps.

If you need ships just ask.  Sure I can it something in when the time calls.
All I need is stats and a rough idea what you need, shape wise. The TCW ships design premise was 'Big and Slabby'. Sketches  are good too.

I tend to design main hull, engines, bridge then weapons. Chop change and add based on hull, its easy to pull each hull class from basic design.
The Key is trying not to make each hull 'samey'

Here endeth the design lesson.

The Brits and Americans would have to fit in somewhere.

quote]

Its just a thought. A brave one maybe.
No USA, the 'commonwealth' instead. England owns a fair size of America.  Or just Canada?
But not the few southern states who broke away in the mid 19th century.
Perhaps some French or german owned parts maybe?

No Great War and WW2 sees the british empire still strong, but not as big as the German empire>?
Perhaps tie in some historical links to the Germans too? Royal family etc.
Imply the Royal Navy keeps germany from all out war with Pax Brittanica?
The russians use the CSA states (rebelious southern states) as a thorn in the side of the Commonwealth.

Depends reall what side the Commonwealth sides with ? Or none at all.
I suppose being a Brit and all make me biased. smile

I could help and start some designs if you would like and give me some pointers>?

Angels Fall First is really good.
The ships are lovely.
Its the sort of thing I would love to do, create a universe from scratch and create for it. I seem to be doing it for other peoples worlds and not myself.

Tried and early version of the HW2 mod. The Nexus mod looks amazing*

Miniatures, well they could convert the existing HW or Nexus models and cast from them, but the low poly nature may cause problems or will it.?

Rhino is the weapon of choice for converting from 3d to 4d.
I have seen some results and they look good. big_smile

* If anyone is interested the B5 Nexus mod is well amazing.

On a different note.

I have some cracking Matchbox/Hotwheels/Other cars I have converted.
Added guns, ramplates, extra armour etc I would love to show and tell.
Cracking mustang with a 30 cal on side etc.. Some Tamiya Ertl military stuff fits ok on them..

Sold some on ebay. Sold quite well. Still got some left.

Awkward thing is bikes... None really at that scale, I have one dark future street fighter style bike and thats it. You can still find DF stuff on ebay.

Now if some one knows an easy way and I can show you fellers them let me know!

You will be glad to know at least one person this side of the atlantic is into the whole Road Warrior idea  big_smile
