I have a question about the overall site design: why is there no 'Store' link so I can get to a list of the books you have available and for sale?

Navigation to anything other than the Discussion Forums is a bit clunky.

For example, when I click on the Starmada Unity Rulebook on the main page, I am taken to the Starmada page... which is nice, but the "marketplace" link on the right in the page is the newest book in the series (Starmada Full Thrust), not the book I just clicked on. This feels odd. Thus, I continue... Looking at the list of books on that page, they are a collection of books for multiple editions of Starmada. Nothng here helps me determine which supplemental books go with which core books... or even which books are the core books. But, I click on the Starmada Unity Rulebook on this new page, and I am taken to the Starmada Unity Rulebook page (made it!).

I really think that a 'Store' link that would show the various items available and break them down by what game they are for, which version of that game they are for, and which items are core and which items are supplements... would be quite helpful.

Thanks.

I have been looking around the site, and I am not seeing these books. The Steve Jackson Games website has the digital files; I would rather have the physical books. The ADB site seem to have physical books, but only the AE and Nova editions.

So I am asking: where/how do I get the physical books for the Unity edition of the following titles:

[*] Klingon Armada[*] Romulan Armada[*] Alien Armada[*] Distant Armada[*] Battleships Armada

Thanks in advance.

Hey! Life has been strange this year.

Hope you are all healthy and happy. And hope that next year is far, far better.

Take care!

Can you give us a hint when the 2020 Rules Annex will be officially released?

I would say "it has already been released" is as close a hint as you are going to get about this. smile

Thanks!

When I click on the link at http://www.mj12games.com/starmada/, I get a 404 Page Not Found error for a path of http://www.mj12games.com/starmada/Drydock2.zip.

Thanks for your attention. smile

+1 vote for supplemental books from the Admiralty Edition updated for Unity

Everything alright, Dan?

You did not post the guidelines and you have not been on the board in a few days. Just wanting to make sure that you are ok.

I was hoping that the four "popular" ships would come out roughly even in terms of point values (I blame it on too much SFB, where the Fed CA and the Klingon D7 were designed to be pretty evenly matched).

Gotcha. Bab5 is not that kind of universe, however. smile

I'm also looking at making some major changes to my conversion "formulas". Part of this has come from my finally tracking down some stats for B5 ACTA ships (and older Starmada AE conversions) and realizing that some of my weapons may need some tweaking.
...

Talk with Dan... I am sure he has a mathematical value for each of those. I would not, however, have a trait that includes another trait. Have the trait... and allow the other trait to be added in as well.

Hull and Defenses are the other thing I'm still not 100% satisfied with. Hull right now is a 'plug number', sort of backwards ship design - add everything, then adjust hull to fit. This has lead to some ships of the same class having different Hull values (higher and lower). And while I'm quite in love with the directional defenses (both of them), I'm not finding a fit/formula that makes me happy.

Just a thought and a comment from the peanut gallery...

For Hull... take the number of total hull boxes and divide by a constant to get the Hull value in Starmada. Then, do not worry if everything does not fit in a Starmada-ruled hull. This is a conversion and so it does not need to meet the Starmada ship design standard. Know that the battle point value will calculate correctly regardless.

Just find one ship and decide about what you think the hull should be. This will give you the divisor you need and go from there. I would suggest that you select the largest ship you plan to convert... set it at the largest Hull value you plan to use... viola!

Those numbers seem pretty reasonable to me. The Sharlin really is a beast compared to the ships of the younger races and the EA Omega, even though called a "Destroyer" is really the EA's dreadnought class ship and should be comparable to the Octurion and the Bin'Tak.

This.

I'm seeing a skewing in the values.

As compared to... what? If you mean as compared to the values given in B5Wars.... ignore that. Dan's math-fu is vastly superior to AoG's estimation-(feel-good)-fu. Nothing against AoG, mind you... but their battle point values were vastly askew in places.

I know that B5W uses a d20 for to hit so this really magnifies the differences in Fire Control (d6=16.6% per point, d20=5%), but if you try to squeeze it down at 3-1 everything homogenizes out and all the weapons end up at 3+ or 4+ and nothing much outside of that.

I loved B5Wars.

But as much as I loved it, the game had some serious point balance issues. In speaking with Agent One it was evident that they ball-parked everything, rather than relying on any sort of underlying mathematical principles.{1} Thus, I would say your conversion, while not being the same as B5Wars, is much more in keeping with the show{2}, and will pan out as point balanced in this system because Dan is a mathematical wizard. big_smile

{1} As bad as the math could be in B5Wars, the Turning Point system was far, far, FAR, worse.
{2} Minbari should be scary powerful when compared to EA ships, for instance. EA ships were shown to back down and leave in a couple of episodes.

Eventually, I'd love to see non-FC things show up in SFU SUE: Scouts, non-Hydran carriers, possibly even PFs. Starmada feels like you could use F&E as a campaign system for it (which is way too time-intensive to do in SFB), and filling in the gaps for at least the unexpanded base game would be nice.

Yes. That right there.

Starmada AE had a lot of options for fighters. I am hoping for custom fighter rules at some point from Dan -- but I want to use only official rules right now in mt S.D.G. setting. As such, the fighters fielded by the A.C.E. are both considered Interceptors (the A.C.E. are not very good at the construction of fighters).

DARKWING Fighter -- Interceptor

SHADOW Fighter -- Interceptor

Yes, but that is hardly a bad thing. big_smile

One observation - marking Ballistic weapons with a '*' at short range is a bit of a pain as you still need to know what short range is. Yes you can easily work it out but its just one more thing to do in a game which when played solo has enought to do. Perhaps under-line the range value instead?

The limitations of ASCII as used in the Drake Notation means underlining is not likely to work. Parenthesis are used elsewhere... so perhaps a range 9 ballistic weapon could be noted as  *3-6-9 or some-such? Not sure. But I am sure Dan can come up with a good solution.

I agree. B5Wars is closer to the show and the 'official' material.

It is also a lot of fun (once you get past the serious balance issues the game can have). All hail the mighty Centauri Republic. big_smile

Agreed. An arbitrary limit is not all that desirable (to me anyway). Something that limits it indirectly would be better -- again, just my opinion. smile

As stated: you are exceptional with the numeric balancing of this game -- so, if upon reflection you think it is right, then I am not in any position (without a lot of evidence) to disagree.  big_smile

Does all of this mean that the adjustment for Expendable is, perhaps, not costed properly? I know Dan is exceptional when it comes to these things, but even he is human. Mostly. As far as I know.

Let me dig it out and I can tell you what the loadout is and you can compare.

Don't mean to repeat myself, but what are the chances of getting all of the supplemental material from AE converted to Unity books?

Dreadnoughts, Imperial Armada, Hammer and Claw, etc...
