Honor Harrington books and the Vatta Series by Elizabeth Moon off the top of my head. There was also another series that I don't remember written in the 70s that was pretty good. Used to have them, but they fell victim to one of my library purges prior to a major move.

IMO it's an issue of short hand notation. It is easier to have an arc designation of ABC and be clear as to what arcs are intended vs PFFSF.

I believe the formula for hull size, engines, and shields are in the construction rules (don't have my books handy to check for sure). If you wanted to do a bit more math, you can design the larger hulls using those formula.

Well...after almost two years, Wardogs has slipped out of the top 15 mecha products on RPGnow.  It was good to have lasted so long. smile  And with only one review.

The mecha and other units illustrated in the rules book were not done in a format capable of being used for 3d printing...so, for the present, it is unlikely that they will find their way to miniature form.

The generic mecha squad and apc proposal at Wargames Factory was killed by the owners whom have, for reasons of manufacturing issues, chosen to focus on 28mm figures.

Wish I had better news.

There's a couple good ones if you like big stompy mecha and neat ships.

VanDread - Boy meets Girl add transforming space craft and human harvesting bad guys. Did I mention boys and girls lived on different worlds...

StrAIn - Armored fighter/robots used as fighters in a nasty war...brother vs sister and the discovery of a dark secret.

Argentosama- Again cool fighter/robots used to fight giant adaptive alien robots that try to converge on a single point on the planet. Why is the big thing...

Record: Lodoss War- if you like something more D&Dish.

Rune Soldier - Fantasy camp/humor series...possesses some amusing moments.

Iria - adult level violence and such. BAD alien vs young bounty hunter wanna be out to avenge her brother...this one is considered a classic among anime.

Gasaraki - A mix of modern day and feudal japan mysticism centered around a boy and a girl on opposite sides of corporations developing Tactical Armors...but beware those who are pulling the puppet's strings...

Their style is definitely similar to Z4's 6mm stuff Sgt.

...how the heck did these guys see the models I was working on?

Dunno, but Zandris did those up about some months ago. (long enough that I've forgotten exactly when)  Was sort of surprised myself at how similar things were. Guess the game has ready made mini's ironically. smile

Nomad is correct on question 4.

If your opponent is taking level 5 shields, then designing weapons to ignore shields or halve them, coupled with to hit 3+ paired with fire control is the next logical step if you're doing the one-up game. Honestly, the best answer is to set some design criteria/limits before hand to ensure that the lopsided build is reduced to more managable levels for enjoyable encounters. It's not all that fun getting your hat handed to you by a maxed fleet...  wink

For anyone interested, I have a half inch hex scale poster-sized hex sheet pdf available. It can be printed off at any Staples or someone who is set up to print large sheets. I've not used it myself since I use it directly from ACAD but here it is;

I've posted what little information I have on the subject without, I hope, sounding like I was making any committments for anyone. But to answer your question, the game is not dead. At least not to my knowledge.

You're not going to get straight over conversions. It's merely going to be a matter of getting as close as you can. Difficulty may vary.

Some conversion between the two would be necessary. Particularly in how equipment and small craft are now dealt with. There was also some changes to weapon traits and the formula for computing the SU cost.

Now THAT's gettin creative. I love it!

Speaking for wardogs...the demo version doesn't include the construction section, wider range of units, melee combat, etc.

Yeah...the counter art has nothing wrong with it at all...

72

(105 replies, posted in Game Design)

Gotta admit those look pretty snazzy. Problem is that the color palette for the tank and the counter are too similar, so the tank started to get lost IMO. Not that it doesn't look nice. It's merely an issue of clarity.

Generally ground combat really isn't that different in plot from starship stuff.

Force A meets Force B and attempts to inflict enough casualties to cause Force B to break off their assault. Force B tries to inflict enough casualties to break through Force A with enough remaining units to continue the assault on their real objective.

Force A attacks base/installation in Force B's territory. Force B defenders respond and attempt to destroy or drive off Force A. Force A needs to defeat defenders as well as do significant damage to the base/installation.

Patrol of Force A along contested border areas to watch for reprisal attacks from Force B yet is ambushed by Force B.

Force A is escorting important prisoners of war from Force B to a secure rear area facility when attacked by a rescue team from Force B.

Off the top of my head in general terms.

I'm thinking a full color 3D illustration for the book, Black(gray, white - maybe faction-based coloring) Silhouettes for the counters.

Yeah...that's probably the way to go, though only those that print out the pdf on their own are going to get the benefit of color unless the hardcopy is printed in such.

They look really cool with the paint jobs Dan. But I think legibility-wise the black silhouette is easier to register.
