Good news, everyone! Just a note to say that the Starmada miniatures are now live over at Wargame Vault:

Funny you should mention it. I've been working on the final SSDs this past weekend!

So I have some ideas for new Starmada starship systems:

1) COMMAND / DATALINK: A ship with the Command trait is able to form a command group consisting of itself and a number of friendly ships whose combined combat ratings do not exceed that of the command ship. For example, a command ship of CR 300 could form a group with another ship of CR 300,  two ships of CR 150 each, six ships of CR 50 each, or any other combination that does not exceed 300. The subordinate ships must each have an operational Datalink.

Ships that are in a command group have the benefit of moving AFTER those not in a command group: i.e., conduct two separate Order/Movement Phases. The first for ships out of command, and the second for ships in command.
Command groups are ad hoc and are assessed during the End Phase.

2) JAMMER: This system allows a ship to "jam" an single enemy vessel to which it has line of sight and whose CR is no more than 3x its own. For example, a ship of CR 80 could target an enemy ship of up to CR 240. Jamming is performed during the End Phase: place an appropriate marker on the target of each jam. Multiple ships may combine their Jammers to affect an even larger ship: e.g., a ship of CR 70 and a ship of CR 100 could team up to jam an enemy ship of up to CR 510.

When a starship is selected to make its attacks during the Combat Phase, roll a number of dice equal to the number of "Jam" markers on it. If any of these dice come up 1, the ship must forfeit its attacks. Remove the "Jam" markers.

3) CASEMATES: This trait indicates a starship whose weapons are heavily armored or otherwise protected against damage. A ship with Casemates only checks off a Hull box on a damage roll of 3: i.e., no Weapon box is checked off.

Just an announcement that the Core Rulebook has been updated to version 1.1, incorporating the errata identified so far. If you purchased the electronic version, you can download the revised file using the credentials provided at the time of purchase. If you bought a hard copy, you can obtain a list of the corrections here: https://mj12.games/starmada/mjg0160-errata.pdf

Rulebook, p.11:

"If the thrust required for the starship’s recorded movement orders exceeds its current engine rating, the orders are invalid and cannot be completed. Any ship discovered to have invalid orders moves forward hexes equal to its speed in the previous game turn."

However, I think in most friendly games players allow for their opponents to rewrite their orders.

Yaay!

With the new rules you can design weapons with different ROF/ACC/DMG at each range band. So I would set DMG-3 at your closest range band, DMG-2 at your middle band, and DMG-3 at longest range.

The numbers at top right are used for the (optional) Seeker balancing rules. See p.25.

The SFU ships are compatible -- with a few modifications as described on pp.68-69 of the Core Rulebook. Feel free to ask questions here if they don't make sense.

Better, as long as you buy Klingon or Romulan Armada, you don't need the Unity Rulebook; the rules needed to play are included in those books.

Not automatically, no. But buying a hardcopy gets you the PDF for half price.

It's here!

We're proud to announce the Starmada Core Rulebook has been released. A comprehensive rewrite/reorganization of the Starmada rules, this 96pp book contains everything you need to commit your fleets to battle!

Along with the hardcopy and PDF download options, we are also offering a set of 70 die-cut counters and 25.5"x33" paper hexmat to get you into the game right away.

Check out the web site at https://mj12.games/starmada/ for more details.

Might check the main web page as of this morning... smile

I'm in the process of developing Starmada: Full Thrust 2, to include the alien races (Kra'Vak, Phalons, and Sa'Vasku) along with a number of the "minor" human factions.

As you may have noticed from prior posts, we're introducing a new SSD layout, which includes a defensive facings diagram. This will require top-down views of each ship, as shown in the example here (not a Full Thrust ship, but you get the idea). While photos of painted minis might conceivably work for this purpose, it would be infinitely better to have line drawings--much cleaner and clearer when printed in black and white.

I seem to recall having seen some of the NAC ships done in such a style, but I don't remember who did them. Is there anyone with some drafting skills who might be able to assist?

Soon you will be able to add "resource management" to your Starmada games.

Although power points are part of the Star Fleet Universe books, nothing similar has been available for player-created designs -- until now! Adapted from Ad Astra Games' Squadron Strike action point system (with Ken Burnside's kind permission and input) the concept can be added to your own fleets with minimal fuss. Of course, your ships will still be balanced against those without APs...

Details to follow, but here's a sample from the Full Thrust Sa'Vasku fleet -- using one of Todd Pote's "bug" ships as the illustration because I don't have access to top-down views of the official GZG ships.

Back in 2004, as part of Starmada's 10th anniversary, we held a contest to create SSDs for the various fleets produced by Brigade Models. As the game has progressed since then, I have often wanted to go back and revisit those brilliant miniatures.

No better time than the present, I guess -- so who's up for another contest? The stakes aren't super high: attribution in an upcoming product, along with the adoration of your fellow starship commanders. But who needs anything more than that? smile

I've put up a Google spreadsheet with the various ships from Brigade's six largest fleets: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ … sp=sharing

If you're interested, take a look to see which ships I need designs for, along with the hull sizes I've somewhat arbitrarily set for each. Some variance is allowable (say +/-1 hull) but please stay close as I'd like to be sure there is some consistency.

You can upload your results on our discussion forums, or Discord server, or Facebook page: links for each can be found at the mj12.games web site.

Have fun!

Hmm... I'd be interested to know what commonality there is among the ships with > +/-2 variance. Note that the "official" Drydock rounds values to the nearest 5.

Unfortunately, all of the files previously uploaded to the Forum were lost in the recent transition to a new web host. Sorry. sad

Work is progressing, but it got lumped into some larger projects about which I hope to have some updates in the very near future.

It means I can't encourage anything, nor can I provide "official" conversion info. Whatever y'all choose to do is your business... smile

Due to the nature of our agreement with ADB, we can't allow players to build their own Star Fleet SSDs. Sorry.

I *knew* should have removed the "crying and mocking" subroutine.

Doing what you are trying to do is not allowed in the current iteration of the rules, but isn't out of the question. Let me stew upon it.

I don't see a reason not to post the data. Love to see it, myself. smile

Ok, so the difference is between "asteroid fields" (which are treated as dangerous terrain) and a single "asteroid" (which is impassable). See p.54.

The latest printing of the Starmada Unity rulebook includes the updates to existing rules from the 2020 Annex, but not the new material.

Nope. Only the loser gets RPs. It's a way of balancing the scales a bit. smile
